Dante Love probably won't play football again

According to a statement released by Ball State today, wide receiver Dante Love will live a "normal and happy" life, but his football career is "expected to be over."

Not surprising news, but very unfortunate.

According to Doug Zaleski's blog, he may be released from the hospital this week. The biggest news out of all this, though, is that he has feeling in all his extremities and suffered no paralysis. Zaleski's story in today's Star Press is a must-read and some pretty interesting analysis from one of the doctors at Ball Memorial.

He suffered a cervical spine fracture on a hit by IU's Chris Adkins. There has been some hulabaloo over what Adkins' Facebook status was leading up to Saturday's game. According to a commenter on ESPN.com, his Facebook and MySpace status said the following: "a BSu playa leaves the field on da cart or in da bodybag!!!!"

Well, then.

But let's be honest here. I'm willing to bet there was no sort of intent on Adkins' part. It's just football players doing normal trash talking. I think. Football coaches always compare games to war, and maybe that comment was an outreach of that. We'll see though.
